 Overview

One of the most popular treks, the Everest Base Camp was first conquered by Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary in 1953. So, Everest has traditionally been the ultimate goal for mountaineers. This remarkable trek passes through the Sherpa town, where trekkers acclimatize and admire the lifestyle and the warm hospitality of the locals. Besides Mt. Everest, other tall peaks of the world are clearly visible and are a sight not to miss. The biodiversity is attractive at the Sagarmatha National Park (world heritage site).

The Mt Everest Base Camp trek is one of the most popular trek mountaineers want to accomplish when they come to Nepal. Every moment of the trek is worth the dedication and the challenges that have to be faced. The sense of achievement of facing the world’s highest mountain cannot be compared to any other feeling.

The journey to the EBC trek begins with 40 minutes’ flight to Lukla from Kathmandu. You will begin the trek into the Solu Khumbu Region to Namche Bazaar (3,440m); the Sherpa capital of Nepal or also known as the gateway to Everest. In this small town, you will experience the beautiful scenery and the lifestyle of the locals. From Namche Bazaar, you will continue the trail trekking up to Tengboche, where you’ll come across an ancient Buddhist monastery. Then you’ll further continue your trek to Dingboche. As you’re slowly nearing your destination, the altitude and the challenges increase. The efforts and dedication make this trek worth the time. The journey further continues to Lobuche given the spectacular views over the Himalayas. We finally reach to the Everest Base Camp, the nearest you could ever be to Mt. Everest (8,848m) and back to Gorak Shep (5,185m). The next day we hike to Kala Patthar viewpoint (5,555m) where we can witness the sunrise on Mt. Everest and also view the Khumbu glacier. We trek back to Gorak Shep then to Pheriche and we descend down to Namche Bazaar following to Lukla. Then we take the domestic flight back to Kathmandu.

The walk through the Himalayas is a stunning journey from the start to finish and allows you to not only be able to see the incredible scenery of the highest mountains in the world but also to experience the lifestyle of the locals up there. No matter the case, your journey to the Everest Base Camp Trek will be full of challenges, excitement and beauty.

It is a very important notice to all our clients who are booking 10 days everest base camp trek to inform you that it's very challenging journey to complete in 10 days due to various reason like weather, climates and with that's said you also must be physically fit to complete it in 10 days as EBC itself is very challenging and it becomes to when it's needed to be completed in 10 days. Karma Trek and Adventure Nepal would also like to recommend all our valuable clients that they should arrive Kathmandu a day earlier in the afternoon before the day we departed and start our 10 Days Everest Base Camp Trek next day, To make sure that you’ll attend our Official Briefing as an important Pre-meeting. The Reason we do so is we want to make sure that you get proper mental guidance and necessary information just to have a recheck of equipment and goods for the journey to make sure you haven't forgotten anything and if forgotten, then make sure that you are provided with those things ASAP on that very day. This pre-meeting will give a Clear idea about the necessary types of equipment and the challenges you may face in the trek which will be a kind of motivational seminar for you to be prepared and excited about the trek. Similarly, it is best to have at least 1 or 2 days extra because the flight from Kathmandu to Lukla or from Lukla to Kathmandu might be cancelled or delayed due to bad weather and that might make you miss your international flight back to home.

After trekking for three to four hours, lunch will be served around midday on the route to the next destination and we continue after about an hour of rest.

The afternoon walk is generally shorter; about two to three hours. Once we reach our overnight lodge/tea house/tent, we snack on the extra dietary food. We will have free time to explore nearby places.

Dinner is served around 6 PM to 7 PM. After dinner and before going to bed, we indulge in friendly conversations and discuss the experience of that day. The expedition leader/guide will brief us about the next day’s plan. After this briefing, we enjoy on board games like monopoly, cards and watch available mountaineering documentaries. Most of the foreigners indulge in light and fun learning of Nepalese language from our crew or read books before heading off to bed for a well-deserved sleep.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is a significant part of our booking condition for The 10 days Everest base camp trek. All the members of trekking must provide a copy of their comprehensive travel insurance policy certificate to Karma Trek and Adventure Nepal. The policy must cover medical and emergency repatriation inclusive of helicopter rescue and evacuation expenses at high altitude (up to 6000 m) for trekking members.
We can recommend insurance companies to help you but we don’t directly get involved in the sale of the insurance policy. Members can be refused to be included in the trekking based on insufficient, improper or absence of travel insurance policy.

Trekking members are kindly requested to send their detailed insurance information once they book for the trekking. In case of emergency situations, we will be using the insurance policy and informational documents you sent us. This will help us arrange a quick and effective rescue operation, transfer for emergency medical help etc. Please ensure that the insurance company includes the cost incurred for mountain rescue service at the highest elevation of the trekking.

Before you buy travel insurance (Don't just believe them what they say in their website) make sure you call them and recheck if they have Heli-rescue and evacuation up to 6000m according to your trekking height.

Passport and Visa

All foreigners except Indians, require a visa to enter Nepal. Visa is available on arrival in the Tribhuvan international airport. Visa can be extended at the central immigration office www.immigratiion.gov.np The visa application will require at least a passport of 6 months’ validity, and a passport size photo. The current cost of visa fee is the US $40 for 30 days which have to be paid in cash on arrival on Tribhuwan International Airport. Citizens of China and the SAARC countries will receive a free visa. There are certain countries (Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Palestine, and Afghanistan)that may not receive the visa on arrival and so you will have to contact your local Nepalese embassy.

Money Exchange

Nepali Rupees (NPR/Rs) is the local currency.

(1 USD = Approx Rs.100-116 NPR).

We can exchange most of the foreign currencies through local banks and legitimate money exchanges in Kathmandu and all over Thamel. Small amounts of cash can also be exchanged at the hotel.

The ongoing rate of exchange is visibly displayed. The government of Nepal has banned the import, export and use of 500 and 1000 Indian Rupee notes in Nepal. You should ensure that you are not carrying these notes on arrival in Nepal as they will be confiscated and you may also be fined.

Despite having the security advantage of traveller's cheque, we prefer cash exchange to avoid hassles like a lengthy process and high rate of commission at the banks. You can withdraw cash (in Rupees only) from one of the many ATMs in Kathmandu and Thamel itself. There are quite a several ATMs that are open around the clock. The maximum withdrawal amount is 35,000 Rupees for a 500 Rupees processing fee if you are using your foreign card.

If you use the money exchange facility at banks and financial institutions the service fee charge imposed is about four per cent or more depending upon the bank.

During the trek, there are no banks and money exchange services so you should exchange your money in Kathmandu only, depending on how much personal expense you require as in Himalayan region people only accept Nepalese Currency.

Most of the established banks in Asia will not accept foreign currency notes that are old, torn or faded. Please ensure that you have new, clean notes

During the trek, every group will be together so that everyone is safe and won't wander off alone.

Please be advised:

We highly recommend our clients to add extra days in your trip to Nepal as a safety margin for your return flight. The flight from Kathmandu to Lukla and Lukla to Kathmandu may get behind the schedule due to air traffic and may cause delays. In such cases, we always try our best to reschedule the flights to and from Lukla. However, we would like to inform you about the possibility of postponements or cancellations of flights. We would like to suggest our clients to schedule 2 days extra to avoid any problems with the international flight. Upon our client's request we can arrange a helicopter at the cost of approximately USD 500-1000 depending on the demand and capacity. It is very likely that there will be no delays but if any such case happens, we can help arrange additional activities with your extra time in Nepal.

Please Note The 10 days Everest Base Camp trek includes fixed departure dates from Kathmandu and can be fitted to accommodate your specific requests and schedule. Please review our designated departure dates for this trek and if they do not suit your time frame, then let us know how we can arrange a trek that is convenient for you. The itinerary listed above is a general guideline; please be advised that it might be necessary to modify it due to external factors beyond our means including and not limited to the following: unstable weather, accessibility and availability of lodging and campsitesunforeseen governmental, trail and ecological conditions and other circumstances beyond our control. Although it is unlikely that changes will occur that would significantly alter the original itinerary, we cannot be held accountable for the results of delays or changes beyond our control. In the event of an Itinerary adjustment or need to redirect to other trails and areas, the Leader Guide will ultimately make the final choice on the best rerouting after consulting with the group members and keeping in mind the interests of the party as a whole. If an alteration is necessary, then we will certainly do everything we can to diminish the effects.
